Carbon Cat featured in NW Yachting
According to the NW Yachting article titled LITTLE BOAT, BIG TRIP written by Ron Parker, The Aspen Carbon Cat is a groundbreaking tender boat designed by Larry Graf, founder of Aspen Power Catamarans, to address the limitations of traditional Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs). Frustrated by RIBs’ bulk, slipperiness, and short lifespan, Graf created a lightweight, durable, and efficient hard-bottom tender. Incorporating Aspen’s signature catamaran stability, the Carbon Cat features advanced aerospace materials, a fine entry hull for smooth rides, and innovative elements like cushioned seating, integrated flotation, and modular accessories.
Available in three sizes—T9, T10, and T11—the Carbon Cat meets rigorous US Coast Guard standards for flotation and stability. Graf and his team tested its capabilities in a 188-mile adventure around Puget Sound in September 2023, enduring challenging conditions with wind and waves. Despite rough seas, the Carbon Cats remained seaworthy, stable, and fuel-efficient, cruising at 12-21 mph speeds while using minimal fuel.
The journey demonstrated the Carbon Cat’s versatility and reliability, proving it a capable tender for practical and adventurous excursions. Graf reflected on the successful trip, emphasizing the fun and durability of the boats, even in demanding environments. Read the full article on NW Yacht’s Website here.
